with the surrounding villages to touch, heal and better the quality of lives around the world. In everything we do, there is a strong commitment to sustainable development, balancing the needs of the present with those of the future.
A model village is a self-sustaining rural community. At Welspun, we conceived the idea of creating a model village in order to transform the livelihood of people in villages and rural areas. Our aim is to spread awareness and improve their infrastructure, sanitation, education, and access to healthcare.
Our vision of 2022 is to establish and improve 5 model villages in sites such as Anjar, Vapi, and Dahej.
Education is the most primary, basic, and important need. We want to improve the quality of this basic need for children in villages and rural areas, which is why we have initiated the ‘Quality Education Project’ in Gujarat. This program aims to provide children with quality educations by appointing para-teachers. Para-teachers are appointed for specific subjects, teaching children from scratch and ensuring that they excel academically.
An example of the role of a para-teacher can be seen in Ajay’s situation. Ajay, a 12-year-old boy from the village of Shinugra, Anjar, did not attend school for 5 years and was seen working as a wage labourer to help his family. However, our para-teacher encouraged him to go back to school and handheld him during his learning process to bring him up to the same level as his peers.
In partnership with the Gujarat Government, Welspun has taken up the initiative to digitalize government primary school classrooms and make them more conducive for learning. Gyankunj is a school digitalization program to enhance classroom interactivity & teaching-learning processes with the help of technology tools like projectors, interactive boards, laptops, speakers, wi-fi routers, etc.
Thus far, we have impacted close to 40,000 students of Bharuch, Valsad and Kutch districts, installing almost 223 digital education software. By 2020, we aim to digitalize 1000 classrooms impacting more than 1,00,000 students across Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana.
At Welspun, we are passionate about upholding every child’s right to a quality education. In addition to founding and operating three schools near our facility in Anjar, India, the Welspun Foundation also runs vocational and skill training programmes, to create further opportunities for the youth and lift families to better, more contented lives.
Welspun Foundation in association with NGO ‘Pratham’, has designed a special Experiential Learning program, to bridge the gap between learning capabilities in children. We continue to help more than 3000 students from over 35 schools through this initiative.
We strongly stand for the empowerment of women, creating equal opportunities, and providing an environment that helps them earn a livelihood.
We strive to provide good healthcare for our community and stand for environmental stewardship. We want to promote and protect communities through a range of initiatives by proving clean drinking water, blood donation drives, improving hygiene and sanitation, and upgrading infrastructure.
With over 36,000 saplings planted thus far, Welspun’s green initiatives in Anjar, Vapi and Dahej, have transformed the landscape of what were dry and arid regions. At Anjar, in what was once a desert, now thrives a verdant green oasis – a testament to the environmental programs initiated by the Welspun Foundation.
